Soin Gommant Purifiant Regulateur G-1 de Benta Berry - And Other Words I Can't Pronounce

Soin Gourmet Purifante - ok, they lost me somewhere.  I assume this is French?  (I never studied French.)  For the purposes of this article, let's just refer to the product as "G-1" because it sounds like "G-6," which I've inferred from rap songs is like, super boss or something.

This nifty and unpronounceable sample came in April's (Oh god, what month is it again?) Birchbox.  Did I review April's Birchbox?  Probably not, that sounds like me.

"Scrub fluid."  This was the only clue as to the potential beauty benefits of this mystery G-1 fluid that I could decipher from the back of the tube.  Just a hint, if you want people to buy your stuff, how about a bit more English?  That's all I'm saying.  My point is, "scrub fluid," to me, meant facial cleanser, which is how I attempted to try this minuscule (0.1 oz) sample.  Its creamy texture and small beads also lead one to this conclusion.  However, as I attempted to apply the formula in the typical cleansing fashion, I was sure I was mistaken, as this lovely smelling liquid feels more like a moisturizer than a cleanser.  Rather than removing my makeup, this formula merely smeared the black mascara around my face, even after I had used the whole tube! :/  Cleansing... not so much. My face does feel incredibly moisturized, however, without feeling oily.

Sure enough, Birchbox touts this as an "exfoliating facial cleanser," but I stick with my original assessment.  Great for moisture, not so much for the cleansing.  Perhaps this product would be useful for ladies who use makeup remover beforehand, or for a morning facial cleanser if you're feeling especially dry.

Overall, the effects of this cream are lovely, but differ far from how they're described.  For a moisturizing cleanser, however, it's a great product.  My skin feels great!  Just don't look at those mascara smears everywhere :p

Excuses

My extended absence here has been due to an utter windstorm in my life.  For the past few months, I have been passing tests, getting licenses, starting a new job, entering a steamy romance, etc. - and getting absolutely nothing accomplished here!

But never fear, I have been dutifully documenting and photographing dozens upon dozens of beauty products, and I hope to have new and insightful reviews rolling out regularly now that life is getting (a little) more settled.

I hope your summer has been grand :)

Beauty Bar & Allure Sample Society - June Box

Hey guys!  I've been crazy busy and haven't posted anything in forever BUT there's this new subscription sample service that I'm kinda excited about, so here I am :)

I got an email a few weeks back that Beauty Bar's new sample box "Sample Society" was available for new subscribers.  Allure is also involved (somehow), so I figured I would give it a go.

There are soo many sample boxes out there right now!  I've tried Birchbox, myGlam, as well as Total Beauty.  You typically get 4-5 samples a month, and they're usually a mixed bag of useful, full-size products and silly, teeny ones. But I still subscribe because A) I like getting things in the mail and B) cheap beauty stuff!

The Beauty Bar box is pretty cute.  I frickin love that makeup skyline!  I feel like I should mention that it's pretty much the exact size and shape as Birchbox, which I thought was odd... It seems like all of the sample subscriptions that have recently debuted have avoided Birchbox's signature box shape.  (For instance, MyGlam's bags and Total Beauty's rounded packaging.)

Ha!  It was difficult getting pictures because I guess my cats like beauty products too ;)

 Look familiar?

Pretty cute packaging!

I was pretty pleased by the size of the products in Sample Society. Most of the products are big enough to get a good idea of how they work over several uses.  I'd like to point out, though, that Sample Society promises "5 deluxe-size samples," and I don't really feel like 0.03 oz of Caudalie eye cream is deluxe.  But, just a small quibble.

Sephora and Pantone Universe Color of the Year Collector's Edition Review, Swatches, and Photos

Is it possible to be in love with a makeup collection?  Because if so, I think I've found my makeup soulmate :)

I am totally in love with this Tangerine Tango makeup set.  In case you don't know, Tangerine Tango is Pantone's color of the year, and they teamed up with Sephora to create a collection inspired by this awesome shade.  I've always been a fan of more orange-y reds, so I totally flipped out when I heard about this.  I ordered it as soon as it was available because in my makeup-crazed state, I assumed that everyone else would be coveting the kit as much as I was.  (Not true - lucky for you, it's still in stock!)  Ok ok, I'll stop fan-girling and give you some pics ;)

This thing arrived in a GIANT box on my doorstep a couple days ago!

The inside of the box has all of these Tangerine Tango inspired colors.

Don't know if you can tell from the picture, but all these products are full-size and ginormous!

Have I tempted you enough yet?  Take the jump for individual pictures, swatches, and the review :)

Too Faced Naked Eye Soft & Sexy Eye Shadow Collection Review

Hi everyone!  I've been super excited to review this palette for y'all!  It was Ulta's first 21 Days of Beauty "Beauty Steal."  I got it last Thursday and promptly lost it, which I never do with makeup - but you would totally understand if you saw the state of messiness my room is in!  Anyway, let's check it out!

First off, this pictures drives me nuts. Who has lashes that look like that?

I took all these photos while sunbathing, so the pictures are sometimes dim due to clouds... I did get a suntan (burn) though!

For the rest of the review and tons more pictures, take the jump!

Urban Decay Giveaway!! Ends March 31st

Hey guys!  As I hinted on Twitter earlier, it's time for my first giveaway!  I'm super excited about this, and I hope you are too, because I'm giving away one of my favorite Urban Decay products!

The item up for grabs is Urban Decay's 24/7 Shadow Pencil Stash, which I reviewed a few weeks ago.  I absolutely LOVE this set!  It has the prettiest colors, is so easy to apply, and looks perfect even after a long and strenuous day.  Plus, it fits perfectly with this season's neons and neutrals trend.

Hopefully you can get a pretty good idea of the colors here.  The shades include Sin (a UD classic), JuJu, Rehab, Clash, and Delinquent in 0.088 oz.  (Full size is 0.10, so these are a teensy bit away from full size.)

TO ENTER: There are going to be a lot of ways to enter this time, so we can figure out which way everyone likes best!  Each item you complete earns you one entry - all you have to do is tell me what you did in the comment section of this post!

Now, here are the things you can to do enter...

Each of these earns you one entry, so there's a total of 8 altogether!  Whichever of these items that you complete, be sure let me know in the comment section below, including links if necessary (if you posted on FB, Twitter, or your blog.)  That way I can check and be sure everything is correct.  Also, include your email address so I can contact you if you win =D

If you don't feel comfortable leaving your email address on this post, feel free to email me at katelynn@beautyblogish.com.

Lastly, this giveaway is going to go through the end of the month, so you have plenty of time to spread the word to your friends!  Good luck everyone!

March's Birchbox and Glam Bag Showdown!

So I was SUPER excited when I opened my mailbox today to find not one but two makeup boxes!  My Birchbox came a few days late and the Glam Bag came a few days early, so them arriving together plus their price of $10 each naturally created a rival environment.  I'm so excited to give you a taste of each of these brands and show how they stack up against each other.

Birchbox and Glam Bag, for those of you who don't know, are makeup subscriptions that send out samples and/or full size products for $10 a month.  This is my fifth month for Birchbox and my second for Glam Bag. (Which just came out in December.)

I'm going to review Glam Bag first because that was the one I was most excited about and also the one I opened first...

This is Glam Bag's March bag... a little cute, but does anyone really need another makeup bag?

This is the big item for March's Glam Bag... a "classic crease brush and case," emblazoned with the MyGlam logo, with a pretty pink handle and case.  The description page in the bag says that Michelle (the create of myGlam) handpicked the brush during her trip to Hong Kong.

The brush seems nice enough, but I typically find crease brushes rather bulky and difficult to use.  Plus, I have quite a few of them.  But we'll see how it works actually applying makeup.

There is a sample of Pur-lisse Pur-Protect SPF 30 Essential Daily Moisturizer, a sample of Murad Eye Lift Perfector, and a $25 off $50 Dermstore "gift card."  The samples themselves are nice, but the kind that you get thrown in with your Sephora.com or Ulta.com order for free.  The Dermstore gift card - really more of a coupon - is also a nice touch, but doesn't really stack up to last month's $100 gift card to NuMe.  I hate it when gift cards require you to spend a minimum amount just on principle.  Really the best deal you could get with this is 50% off.  I loved the NuMe giftcard because you had the choice to spend as little as $15 (the lowest priced item on the site was $115).  I actually spent $190, including shipping, on the site.  But just the idea that it's more of a gift card than a coupon is enough to give me a benevolent view of the company, I'm just saying.

Here's a deluxe sample of Murad Absolute Bronzing Boost with SPF 15.  It's a good size for a sample, though I'm not crazy about bronzers.  (Ok, I don't know how to use them.)  This one says to apply it all over your face for a bronze glow, but when I try that, I usually just look like my foundation's too dark!!  However, I think the bronzer is a nice touch for the upcoming summer months.  (I'm actually lying in the sun right now tanning :)

The package also included a sample of Keracolor's Color Enhancing Leave-In Treatment, "designed to enhance, protect, strengthen and hydrate all hair types."  Coincidentally, I was also one of Keracolor's first 500 Facebook Fans, so I received another of these samples in my hair color (brown) today!  I'm excited to try it, although I worry about it screwing with my hair a little.  But it seems like fun, kind of reminiscent of John Freida's hair color glaze.

...the Keracolor from the mail, not from the Glam Bag.  I assume that Glam Bag sent everyone the non-colored option.

If you want some more details, here's the insert...

And finally, all of March's Glam Bag goodies.  Pretty fun, totally worth the $10, but probably their weakest month, I'm sorry to say.  But props to getting them all out quickly!!

Now on to Birchbox!!  Take the jump for the rest of the review!  (Hint: it's awesome :)
